Ag Chairman Conaway commits to trade support

House Ag Committee Chairman Mike Conaway told delegates to the National Cotton council annual meeting that his committee would workwith the Trump Administration to support trade. He also pledged to put cotton back in the farm bill as a covered commodity.

House Agriculture Committee Chairman Mike Conaway, in a press briefing following his keynote remarks to the National Cotton Council annual meeting Feb. 10 in Dallas, Texas, said Congress will work to impress on President Trump how important trade is to U.S. agriculture. He said campaign rhetoric likely will be replaced by a more pragmatic approach to trade and tariffs. Conaway also said the committee will continue to push to get cotton included  in Title 1 of the Agriculture Act of 2014 as a covered commodity and pledged that cotton will be covered in the next farm bill.
