Bt cotton not bulletproof against bollworms, Kerns warns timing is critical

Watch the video below to hear what Dr. David Kerns, professor and IPM coordinator, Department of Entomology/Texas AgriLife Extension, has to say about bollworm issues in 2017 and what growers can do to minimize risk in 2018.

Planting Bt cotton does not prevent bollworm issues. View the above video to hear what  Dr. David Kerns, professor and IPM coordinator, Department of Entomology/Texas AgriLife Extension, has to say about bollworm issues in 2017 and what growers can do to minimize risk in 2018.

“Consultants and growers had a difficult time with bollworms surviving in their Bt cotton in 2017,” says Kerns, who spoke about the problem at Texas Plant Protection Association annual conference at Bryan, Texas, in December.  “We conducted a number of survey bioassays to look at whether or not these bollworms were resistant to the Bt toxins.”
