The High Cotton Awards ceremony has produced some memorable moments in its 24-year history. Winners sometimes become emotional about their farming careers and the role that families and friends have played in those over the years.
The 2018 breakfast, which was held at the Mid-South Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tenn., had its share of those as the winners from each of the four regions of the Cotton Belt came forward to accept their Cotton Boll Awards. (The bolls are cast from an actual boll of cotton.
Farm Press’ Greg Frey and The Cotton Foundation’s Bill Norman gave opening remarks and then each of the winners talked about what the award and their families and friends mean to them. This year’s Southeast winner, Nick McMichen, a producer from Centre, Ala., also talked about what it means to be a cotton farmer.
