Pecan tree hedging in New Mexico

New Mexico State University has conducted five years of field trials in Las Cruces, N.M. on the impact of hedging and topping Western Schley variety pecan trees and how the practice impacts yields, nut quality, and the alternate bearing status of the trees. Farm Press Associate Editor Cary Blake talked with NMSU Extension pecan specialist Richard Heerema about the study results thus far, during the Western Pecan Growers Association Conference held this spring in Las Cruces.
