2010 will not go down as one of the better years for U.S. rice yields. USDA projects the average U.S. rice yield at 6,687 pounds per acre, down from 7,085 pounds in 2009. Dr. Ted Wilson of the Texas A&M Rice Station in Beaumont has begun looking at why rice yields sometimes disappoint growers after they think they’ve turned the corner on increasing production. He spoke with Farm Press Editor Forrest Laws after a presentation at the USA Rice Outlook Conference.
