Efforts continue on other oilseeds says PCG president

Plains Cotton Growers President Shawn Holladay, a Lamesa, Texas, farmer, says PCG and other cotton organizations will continue to push to have cottonseed considered an “other oilseed,” following the Secretary of Agriculture’s assertion last week that he does not have the authority to make that designation.

Holladay says producers need to have cottonseed included to get cotton back into Title I of the Agricultural Act of 2014 as a covered commodity. Low prices and high input costs have made profit extremely difficult for cotton farmers to achieve.

Holladay was on hand at the National Cotton Council’s annual meeting last week in Dallas.
