Weil to serve as 2008 CCI president

Robert S. Weil II, a Montgomery, Ala., cotton merchant, will serve as 2008 president of Cotton Council International (CCI), the National Cotton Council's export promotions arm. He was elected during CCI's board of directors meeting and succeeds Michael M. Adams, a Greenwood, Miss., cotton cooperative official who becomes CCI board chairman.

Weil is CEO of Weil Brothers-Cotton Inc. He is a former NCC delegate and serves on the NCC's Doha Strategy Task Force, International Trade Policy Committee and Farm Policy Development Task Force, among others. He also served as president of the American Cotton Shippers Association in 2003-2004 and president of the Atlantic Cotton Association in 1992. He earned a bachelor's degree at Dartmouth College and completed an advanced management program at Harvard Business School.

Other CCI officers elected for 2008 are: first vice president, Clyde T. Sharp, producer, Roll, Ariz.; second vice president, Wallace L. Darneille, cooperative, Lubbock, Texas; and treasurer, John D. Mitchell, merchant, Cordova, Tenn. Mark D. Lange of Memphis, Tenn., was reelected secretary and Allen A. Terhaar of Washington, D.C., was reelected assistant secretary.

CCI elected three new directors for 2008: Werner Bieri, manufacturer, Jefferson, Ga.; T. Jordan Lea, merchant, Greenville, S.C.; and Rickey L. Bearden, producer, Plains, Texas.

Webb, Leary, Ga.; Ginners - Thomas S. “Sid” Brough, Edroy, Texas; and Clark Carter, Rolling Fork, Miss.; Merchants - Dale Grounds, Dallas, Texas; Manfred Schiefer, Lubbock, Texas; Adolph Weil, III, Montgomery, Ala.; and G. William “Bill” Winburne, Phoenix, Ariz.; Cooperatives - John Burch, Bakersfield, Calif.; David L. Hand, El Paso, Texas; and Lonnie D. Winters, Lubbock, Texas; Cottonseed processors/dealers: Gail Kring, Lubbock, Texas; Warehousemen - Vance C. Shoaf, Milan, Tenn.; and Manufacturers - Harding Stowe, Belmont, N.C.
