The concern about having to replant cotton this spring is lessened for producers in southwestern states where Delta and Pine Land Company (D&PL) will offer a new replant rebate program.
The D&PL Cotton Variety Replant Program applies to all D&PL Roundup Ready, Bollgard, Bollgard/Roundup Ready and Bollgard II/ Roundup Ready varieties purchased and planted in 2005 in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Kansas.
“Our 2005 replant program is another example of the advantage producers get when they purchase D&PL varieties,” said Matt Vaughn, High Plains Regional Sales Manager for D&PL. “The early-season weather can get pretty tough on cotton plants in the Southwest and D&PL wants to make sure producers get a fair chance at getting a good stand. Our goal is to help our growers manage the risks associated with weather and environment by offering superior genetics, quality planting seed and excellent technical support, together with a much-needed replant program.”
Only producers in the four program states qualify for the replant rebates, which will be in the form of an invoice credit to the distributor based on the original variety planted. Credits may be used to purchase replant seed of the same or similarly-priced available D&PL cotton varieties.
The replant program covers all D&PL transgenic varieties, including the new and Roundup Ready products, such as DP 432 RR, DP 434 RR and DP 494 RR. The new stacked-gene varieties, such as DP 444 BG/RR, DP 488 BG/RR and DP 555 BG/RR, noted for excellent yield potential and consistently good fiber quality, are also included. DP 445 BG/RR and DP 455 BG/RR are two new stacked-gene varieties covered in the replant program that tested well in the Southwestern states in 2004. Also covered is DP 543 BGII/RR, which, based on testing, is the best variety containing the new Bollgard II gene stacked with Roundup Ready in the D&PL lineup.
D&PL varieties are available in bags containing a minimum of 250,000 seeds and 8-million-seed Boll Box bulk delivery systems. To place seed orders, call customer service at 1-888-511-SEED (7333).
