The Corn Producers of Texas, Texas Grain Sorghum Association, Texas Wheat Producers Association and a new partner this year – Plains Cotton Growers, Inc. – will host the symposium.
“Last year’s event was said to be ‘one of a kind in Texas’ and we look forward to continuing this tradition with the addition of cotton,” said TWPA Executive Vice-President Rodney Mosier.
Steve Verett, Plains Cotton Growers executive vice-president, said, “With the continued expansion of cotton acreage in the Panhandle region, being a part of the Texas Commodity Symposium is a tremendous opportunity for PCG. “Not only does it provide our members an opportunity to interact with producers of other commodities, it also gives them a chance to learn more about issues that affect us all.”
The symposium will be held in conjunction with the Amarillo Farm and Ranch Show. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. and the symposium will begin at 9 a.m. It is free to all and will conclude with a catered lunch at noon.
“Producers will have a unique opportunity to find out firsthand about issues affecting their production,” said Corn Producers Executive Vice-President David Gibson. “They will hear from the Texas Department of Agriculture, the USDA and State FSA offices.”
This year’s Symposium will focus on state and national issues facing the agricultural industry. Topics will range from payment limitations to world trade issues and crop insurance.
“The symposium will allow cotton, corn, sorghum and wheat producers to exchange ideas and learn from each other,” said Wayne Cleveland, TGSA executive director. “We look forward to the Symposium and encourage everyone to attend.”
